New steering wheel installed today. Leather wrap instead of the previous all plastic version. There are now a few more buttons but they don’t do anything on my model; perhaps I’ll wire up my iPod control to one of them. I did lose the mute button, but I never used it anyway, preferring to tap the center knob on the stereo for that function. There were a couple of wires that were cut on this wheel which were probably for the horn. Not taking any chances that they may be related to the airbag I made sure to solder and heatshrink them.
Thanks to good ol’ YouTube, it was a pretty simple task. And TIL that there are cool aftermarket wheels that allow you to transplant the button assemblies on to a fancier, sportier wheel so that you don’t lose any functionality.
Now it’s time to do the shifter bezel. I just need to find all of the E34 parts, do some cutting and gluing and get rid of that eyesore I’ve been using for the last few months.

Here’s a cool aftermarket steering wheel with the factory buttons/controls/airbag installed, something I didn’t realize was possible until today.
